Toys for Level 1 Autism

Level 1 Autism is know as the "high-functioning" form of autism. In level 1 autism, someone is likely to have difficulty with communicating and may have trouble taking certain social cues. They can face challenges when it comes to organizing and planning, which can lead to distress and frustration. Below are a few toys that may help relieve the stress of these behaviors.

Finger Puppets

Finger puppets or dolls a great way to promote communication skills. Each puppet/doll can be given a different personality and the body can be manipulated as a way to express communication.

Play Doh or Silly Putty

Not only can touching and squeezing play doh relieve distress, but it can also help improve organization skills. For example, placing the same color play doh back in its' proper colored container.

Building Blocks

Building blocks are meant to promote creativity as well as social skills, especially fithey are playing with another child. They are encouraged to share blocks with each other and talk about what they want to build.
